The National Design Specification ® (NDS ®) for Wood Construction, 2001 Edition, an ANSI national consensus standard, published by the American Forest & Paper Associ-ation's American Wood Council (www.awc.org) and its supplement Design Values for Wood Construction, reflect changes from 1997 NDS relating to lumber design which are discussed in this paper. The 2001 NDS Supplement provides design values for structural sawn lumber and glued-laminated timber. In addition, several relevant items on lumber design values and lumber grade stamps not covered in 2001 NDS are reviewed.
